Duke/Fluor Daniel
Material Handling System
AES-PR Total Energy Plant
Guayama, Puerto Rico
Duke/Fluor Daniel awarded R&S a turnkey contract to
provide the material handling system at the AES-PR Total
Energy Plant in Guayama, Puerto Rico. The facility accepts
coal or limestone from a self-unloading ship and conveys
the material at 3,000 tph to either coal stockpiles or a
limestone storage building.
Coal is reclaimed from the stockpiles by ten 400 tph vibratory
feeders, conveyed to a crusher building, and reduced by
two 720 tph crushers, from 2 inches X 0 to 3/8 inch. The
coal is then transported to the boiler building where a
tripper fills eight coal silos. Limestone is reclaimed by
a 60 tph vibrating feeder and moved via a 36-inch conveyor
to the limestone process building.
The facility also accepts aggregate material via a hopper
with a 1,800 tph feeder breaker, and transports the material
to a ship-loader through a series of conveyors. To facilitate
loading, the ship-loader is equipped with a telescopic spout
and a retractable boom conveyor.
All unloading, stockpiling, crushing, and shiploading are
controlled by a series of programmable logic controllers
(PLCs). Additional systems include washdown, sump pumps,
and dust collection.
