Jacobs Ranch Mine Construction
Gillette, Wyoming
Roberts & Schaefer provided complete project management,
procurement, and construction services under a turnkey contract
to build the coal-handling, crushing, storage and load out facilitates
at the Jacobs Ranch. The plant has been designed for a production
rate of 16 million tpy.
End or bottom dump trucks deliver ROM coal to a truck dump-primary
crushing station at a rate of 3,900 tph, and after primary crushing,
is sent to a secondary crushing plant. The coal is then sampled,
and sent to four 15,000-ton storage silos, which are arranged
to manually flood-load unit trains at a rate of 9,000 tph.
The coal handling, crushing, sampling and dust collection system
is arranged in two circuits, each rated at 1,900 tph. The four
silos are arranged in-line, using a rotating chute device to direct
coal to the silos without interrupting the flow of coal.
A separate structure was built for the electrical motor control
center, the operator control station, plant offices, and the testing
laboratory.
